About Shilstone
Shilstone is a family-run estate that has been lovingly restored and recreated over the last 25 years. Since then the house and the surrounding buildings and walls have been virtually rebuilt by our incredibly talented team of local craftsmen. Today Shilstone has become a hive of activity with the new addition of garden and woods openings, house tours, café, restaurant and archive.
Our Story
Explore the ESTATE

The House
At the heart of Shilstone lies the completely restored Grade II listed Georgian manor house, open for tours every month, and for events.

The Gardens
The gardens at Shilstone include a fine terraced garden, a walled garden, a kitchen garden, formal gardens around the house, surrounded by wild flowers and long grasses.

The Land
Shilstone is surrounded by unspoilt rolling Devon hills and oak lined green fields. Below the house are five ancient ponds connected by rills and cascades.

Archive
The archive is a historical collection of books, photographs, documents and artifacts with a connection to rural Devon.

Sunday Lunch
Every Sunday Shilstone hosts a traditional Sunday lunch with delicious locally sourced produce. In the winter this takes place in the Great Barn, and in the summer in our marquee in the 17th century walled garden.

Café
Our charming café is situated in a flower-filled courtyard with indoor and outdoor seating, serving a delicious and light breakfast & lunch menu, as well as afternoon tea and homemade cakes.

Workshops and Events
We have a number of seasonal events throughout the year, including wood-fired barbecues in the café courtyard, workshops including block printing, as well as monthly evening lectures.

House and Garden Tours
Every month, the owner of Shilstone House, Lucy Fenwick, hosts house and garden tours, taking you through all of the rooms of the house whilst explaining the history and restoration, and discussing the creation of the gardens.

Gardens and Walks
The gardens include the terrace garden, walled garden, kitchen garden, orchard, formal south and west gardens. The terraced garden has paths meandering through the wild flowers with breath- taking views over the garden and valley below. There are walks down the valley and around the ponds, as well as through the woods, festooned with bluebells in the spring.
