Can you believe the Shilstone Cafe has already been open for three months! In just this short amount of time, we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve had from our lovely visitors. Your feedback is important to us and we’ve appreciated talking with you at our beautiful Devon countryside cafe and hearing your thoughts.
As we’re constantly striving for excellence and creating the most unique and enjoyable experience for our community, the past weeks have seen plenty of changes that we thought you’d like to hear about.
1. NEW DISHES
With a new highly trained chef joining our talented kitchen team, we’re constantly adding new dishes, cakes and treats to our menu. Most noteworthy are our Shilstone-made Scotch Eggs (irresistibly good), the Shilstone Cream Tea (cream or jam first??) and our insanely chocolatey Apricot Sachertorte (enough said!).
In other exciting news, we’ve just started serving Salcombe Dairy Ice Cream, so after you’ve walked the Shilstone gardens (Open Thursdays and Sundays), you’ll be able to chill down with something cold and refreshing.

2. LATEST NEWS
Our latest development is the cafe courtyard… Beautifully enclosed and alongside the Devon Rural Archive, we’ve transformed the outdoor space with lots of seating beneath creamy parasols and surrounded by olive trees and pretty flowers (thank you Lucy Fenwick!).
So when the sun is blazing and there’s a gentle breeze in the air, you could be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere in the Mediterranean.

3. TAKE A STROLL
Our garden walks have been incredibly popular, with access via the gate opposite the cafe. This is something that we’re proud to offer complimentary to our guests as a thank you for coming to see us. Have you ventured over to the Valley Walk yet? This lovely stroll will take you around the Estate grounds and down to the medieval lakes. If you feel like adventuring, please ask a member of staff where the footpath starts and they’ll be happy to guide you in the right direction.

4. OEUF PROVENCAL
And last but not least… we are so excited to introduce our yummy new brunch / lunch dish… Shilstone’s unique take on Oeuf Provencal. The creamy Bechamel sauce is combined with sausage and bacon (to sate those breakfast cravings), topped with a soft boiled egg upon sourdough bread and served with a refreshing side salad.
Having been through the rigorous taste tests, we’re giving this one a definite thumbs up!
